Web design agency Non-Linear Studio was approached by healthcare company Atria to create a healthcare experience that felt welcoming and human. With luxurious locations in NYC and Palm Beach, Atria wanted to draw high end clients to their practices while promising a zen-like clinical experience. Read on to see how, in an unconventional but genius move, Non-Linear approached the project more as a hospitality site than healthcare and earned both the 2023 Best in Show: Websites – Website Features – Best Use of Video or Motion Graphics and 2023 Gold: Websites – General Websites – Health Care Services.
What inspired the creative direction for the Atria site?
The Atria website pulled inspiration from the hospitality sector. We wanted the Atria website to feel warm, human, and inviting. The art direction of the site was largely drawn from the materials used in the construction of their state-of-the-art facility located in New York.
How does this piece represent your creative ethos?
It combines pretty much all of our favorite things about design:
How did the concept of the website evolve over time?
Of the four concepts we initially presented, none were what would eventually go live. There were bits and pieces we took from each of the concepts. Throughout the design process we infused more brand assets while also evolving the amazing branding that our friends at Farrynheight created. Finally, the WebGL and 3d pieces came later in the process as well and added that extra layer that really brought the experience to life in our opinion.
Describe your biggest obstacle or challenge for this project.
The biggest obstacle was probably that we didn’t have a whole lot of imagery or assets to work with. That didn’t stop us, it just pushed us to create original content for the site ourselves.
Tell us about the structure of the team that worked on the site.
Our team structure and what makes our projects special is quite simple – we’re small. Super small. This means that we have the opportunity to work directly with our clients without the headache of intermediaries and the potential for miscommunication. This project as with most of our projects consisted of a team of two:
What made this partnership special?
I think the number one thing that made this (and pretty much all of our successful projects special) was trust. When a client trusts us, we’re able to deliver the absolute best results and work through feedback in a meaningful and collaborative way.
How does Non-Linear Studio define creative success?
That’s a tough question. I’d have to say it comes down to two being able to answer two questions: 1) Is the client happy? And 2) Are we happy?
Which aspects of the work are you most proud of?
The design / layout and subtle WebGL effects
If you had an unlimited budget, what would you have added?
If we had an unlimited budget we probably would have built the 3D video on the homepage in WebGL. It would have also been nice to re-shoot some of the photography as opposed to heavily editing it in photoshop.
What does winning a w3 Award mean to you and your team?
It’s a confirmation that the work we are doing is good and helps to provide the same assurances to our clients.
