What’s one thing you wish you knew when you first started your career?
That success isn’t about being everything to everyone; it’s about being deeply yourself. I spent too much time early on trying to fit into moulds I wasn’t made for. I wish I knew that the very things that made me different—my perspective, my values, my experiences, and even my frenetic energy—were exactly what would set me apart in the long run.
Do you have any brainstorming rituals?
Yes! Being outdoors, surrounded by nature, is key for me. If I’m stuck in a rut, just getting outside and walking around is where I do my best thinking, especially near trees or water. I use my phone to capture ideas as they come. There’s something about being outdoors that unlocks creative flow for me; it’s like ideas float more freely in the open air. This is probably in part influenced by my upbringing in a small Canadian outdoorsy town!
How do you stay up to date with the latest industry trends?
For me, new trends often start as subtle shifts, as patterns in what people are craving; whether that’s more transparency, deeper meaning, or simply beauty with purpose. I look for recurring themes in unexpected places: student portfolios, indie brands, grassroots movements, even the language people use in public or online. If patterns I’m noticing feel both timely and slightly ahead of their time, that’s usually the start of something meaningful. True trends are rarely loud at first; they whisper before they roar.
What’s your dream project?
My dream project would be designing a toolkit or open-source brand system specifically for climate justice organizations. So many of these groups are doing critical, urgent work, but don’t have access to strong, cohesive branding resources. I’d love to create a flexible, scalable system—rooted in accessibility and visual clarity—that empowers them to communicate with impact, rally communities, and drive change. Design has the power to amplify voices, and I want to use that power to support those on the front lines of the climate crisis.
What is your evaluation process for projects this year?
I’m paying close attention to intentionality, how well each element serves the overall idea. I’m also evaluating work through the lens of inclusivity, sustainability, and long-term impact. This year, I’m especially interested in seeing how entrants are pushing boundaries while staying grounded in strategy. The most compelling projects aren’t just beautiful, they’re built to matter.
