Gold Award for Social – Video: Arts & Entertainment (2023)
AARP is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for everyone as we age. We try to provide positive examples of the 50-plus community with the goal of inspiring our viewers. In this video, Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren shared her secret to thriving at every age. After more than five decades in Hollywood, she says the trick is just to be “at ease with the age that you are” and accept it.
Silver Award for Video: Cause Awareness (2024)
AARP’s Real People, Real Stories series celebrates ordinary older individuals from diverse backgrounds whose actions have made an extraordinary impact on themselves and a wider community. In the series episode, “Florida Couple Runs a Retirement Home for Cats,” we profiled the operators of Cats Cradle, a senior cat sanctuary located in Lutz, Florida. Our objective was to highlight the plight of senior pets and show that any individual can help make an impact on caring for the animals in their community.
Gold Award for Social – Video: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (2022)
In another episode of Real People, Real Stories, we show an older adult who is breaking stereotypes about Alzheimer’s on social media. Charles Mallet, 86, found joy and engagement making videos on TikTok with his granddaughter Basia, and also has gained nearly 5 million followers.
Gold Award for Video – Branded Entertainment: Viral (2018)
One of the goals of AARP is to disrupt preconceived notions around aging. For this video, we posed the question, “What age do you consider to be old?” to millennials in this social experiment and asked them to show us what “old” looks like. Then we introduced them to some real “old” people to help them let go of their outdated beliefs and embrace the idea that aging is not about decline – it’s about growth.
Gold Award for Video – Documentary: Long Form (2021)
In another example of disrupting aging bias, Monte Gould, 59, became the oldest person to ever graduate from this version of the Army’s basic combat training. When Gould decided to reenlist in the armed forces, he was shocked to learn that he had to once again complete boot camp and decided he was up for the challenge.
